Six years ago, I made a decision to change my job from a sales position in the apparel industry to Philip Morris Japan. When I was considering the change, my focus was on foreign companies that evaluate their employees’ performance fairly. I had no experience in the tobacco industry, so I wanted to grow and achieve success faster than anybody else. I found Philip Morris Japan’s merit system to be very attractive, as it reflects one’s performance to their annual salary. I felt that at this company, I will be able to deliver results and achieve my ultimate goal. The confidence that I have drives me further every day.


My aspiration to challenge myself in Tokyo was fully supported

One of the significant aspects of Philip Morris Japan is its culture, where each individual’s aspiration is respected and taken very seriously. I requested a transfer from Nagoya to Tokyo during my third year in this company. Transferring to Tokyo, is not common, and such a request is not easily approved since Tokyo is a key market where only the best sales representatives are assigned. However, my director, manager and HR recognized not only my performance but also my passion for the business, and fully supported my transfer for which I was very grateful.


It’s a working environment that’s “open to change”

We hold meetings where the sales representatives give their candid opinions to the head of department. At one such meeting, I expressed my concern over admin related paperwork being unnecessarily time consuming. I proposed an alternative solution which was immediately accepted, and allowed us to work more efficiently. Regardless of age and/or position, valid proposals are welcomed and taken into consideration. This is a work environment where I’m always stimulated and inspired to initiate action.

It is not easy, but incredibly exciting

My main responsibility is to visit other companies and hold IQOS seminars. I am involved in projects to develop efficient ways to further expand the IQOS user base. As a team, we discuss a variety of topics for example, “how to add more value to the IQOS website,” and every day we continue to actively share and shape ideas. By leveraging the knowledge and experience gained in the field, we are constantly readjusting to deliver the best results. I love this way of working!!
